Kanam, Plateau State — The Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building strong institutions, deepening the rule of law, and fostering inclusive development as he received the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Pankshin Branch, on a historic courtesy visit to his office.

The NBA Pankshin Branch — which comprises Kanam, Wase, Langtang, Pankshin, Mangu, and Bokkos LGAs — was led by its Chairman, Barr. D.S. Zingman, alongside judges, lawyers, and executive members. Their presence in Kanam marks the first time in history that the branch has held its meeting in the local government, a development hailed as both symbolic and strategic.

Speaking during the visit, elder of the Bar, Barr. Raymond, explained that their mission was twofold: to establish the Association’s presence in Kanam and to pay homage to the Council Chairman, in line with the NBA’s long-standing tradition. He underscored the Association’s readiness to partner with the council, especially by offering pro bono legal services to the legislative arm, ensuring that governance in Kanam is guided by sound legal principles.

He further disclosed that the NBA Pankshin Branch, now celebrating 25 years of existence, will use this milestone to strengthen its role as a bridge-builder among communities in its six constituent LGAs.

In his response, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa described the NBA’s visit as timely and deeply encouraging. He noted that governance cannot thrive without strong institutions and legal guidance, and assured the Bar of his administration’s readiness to work hand in hand with them.

The Chairman welcomed their offer of free legal advice to the legislature, urging them to extend more pro bono services that will strengthen accountability and transparency in local governance.“Our administration is committed to building a Kanam where justice, equity, and good governance prevail,” he said.

“By opening our doors to institutions like the Nigerian Bar Association, we are not only strengthening democracy at the grassroots but also ensuring that our policies and programs rest on the solid foundation of the rule of law. Kanam is a land of opportunities, and with strategic partnerships such as this, we are confident of driving sustainable development for our people.”Hon. Musa further assured the NBA delegation that Kanam will always remain open to their engagement.

He stressed that lawyers have a critical role in politics, legislation, and administration, and pledged to involve them in shaping policies that impact the lives of citizens. The closing remark was delivered by their Deputy Chairperson, who solicited the Executive Chairman’s presence and support during their upcoming 25th anniversary celebration.

In response, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa assured them of his full commitment to their request. The visit ended on a note of mutual respect and unity of purpose, with both the Council Chairman and the NBA pledging to deepen their collaboration in advancing justice, grassroots development, and the consolidation of democracy in Kanam Local Government Area.
