The All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State Chapter, has continued its Executive Committee (EXCO) tour of Local Government Areas across the Central Zone of the state, with Kanam Local Government Area hosting the party’s leadership in an engagement focused on reconciliation, unity and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation to Kanam was led by the APC Plateau State Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, alongside other members of the North-Central leadership. The visit was hosted by the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa.
The APC Chairman in Kanam LGA, Hon. Aliyu Shehu Musa, and members of the Local Government EXCO were also present at the meeting, which brought together elected councillors, Supervisory Councillors, Special Assistants, the Executive Deputy Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Shuaibu Ali, Chief of Staff, Hon. Umar Wakdung, party stakeholders and a large gathering of APC supporters.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the party leadership and grassroots stakeholders to discuss grievances and challenges arising from the recent party primaries, as well as ways of resolving existing differences within the party.
Addressing the gathering, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, appealed to party members to put aside their differences and embrace peace, unity and reconciliation. He stressed that internal division could weaken the party, noting that the strength of the APC in Kanam depends largely on the unity and collective commitment of its members.
Hon. Bature further assured the gathering that, as State Chairman, his responsibility was to serve the entire APC and not any particular faction or political group. He therefore called on all members to work together in the overall interest of the party and its future electoral prospects.

Responding on behalf of the APC Elders Forum, Alhaji Dahiru Ayada expressed concern over the divisions within the party in Kanam. He described the situation as serious and called for timely intervention by the party leadership to prevent the disagreements from escalating.
Also speaking, Alhaji Lukman Jakara recalled Kanam’s historical strength within the APC and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections. He stated that the realignment of political interests in the area had further created an opportunity for the APC to consolidate its position.
Jakara also emphasised the political influence of Chief Ephraim Usman and the leadership of Executive Chairman Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, expressing confidence that their combined support would contribute significantly to the APC’s electoral success in Kanam.
In his contribution, Rt. Hon. Yahaya Abubakar Kanam, Special Assistant to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, acknowledged that the disagreements within the party were largely connected to perceived unfair treatment during the recent primaries and the grievances of aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders.
He noted that there was an outstanding score to settle among some political stakeholders in Kanam, but stressed that reconciliation remained the most effective way of resolving the differences. He described the situation as an internal party disagreement that could be addressed through dialogue, particularly with the expected return of the political leader of Kanam, Chief Ephraim Usman, from his foreign trip to Germany.
Speaking during the engagement, the Executive Chairman of Kanam LGC, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, equally appealed for unity among party members. He urged stakeholders to put aside personal and political differences and work collectively for the success of the APC.
Hon. Salihu reiterated his position on the need for political maturity and strategic planning, popularly expressed as “Mataki-mataki,” meaning taking political processes step by step.
The Executive Chairman further called on the people of Kanam to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the APC’s candidates for the National and State Assemblies in the forthcoming elections. He urged party members not to allow political nomenclature, personal interests or internal differences to undermine the collective interests of the people.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable distribution of resources and development across Kanam Local Government Area, assuring residents that all communities would continue to receive fair and just attention irrespective of political or other affiliations.
The remarks were warmly received by party members and stakeholders, who expressed appreciation for the engagement and the opportunity to openly discuss issues affecting the party.
The APC EXCO tour of Kanam LGA therefore ended on a note of renewed calls for peace, reconciliation and unity. The engagement provided an important platform for dialogue between the state party leadership and grassroots stakeholders, with participants expressing commitment to strengthening the party’s structures and collective political efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
