The story of the Gagdi Primary Health Care Centre is one of transformation, resilience, and renewed hope for the people of Kanam Local Government Area. Once a neglected facility, left to the shadows of its past glory, the health centre today stands as a shining example of what visionary leadership and responsive governance can achieve.
It is no secret that this very PHC is tied to history, being the place where even a prominent lawmaker first saw the light of day. Yet, despite its significance, the facility suffered years of abandonment, leaving the community without quality healthcare. That narrative has now been rewritten under the leadership of Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, who has breathed new life into the Gagdi PHC.

In a demonstration of commitment to the health and well-being of his people, Hon. Musa equipped the facility with vital medical items, including: 8 beds and mattresses, 8 drip stands, 8 drawers, 8 pillows with 16 pillowcases and 16 bedspreads, 26 curtains, 2 delivery beds, 2 examination couches, 2 infant weighing scales, BP apparatus, 4 thermometers, 10 plastic chairs, and other essential medical tools. Recognising the urgency of care, he also approved the immediate engagement of Nurse Bonmwa Iliya to serve until the official commissioning of the facility.

The people of Gagdi—men, women, youths, and the elderly—did not hold back their joy as they poured out en masse to welcome the gesture. Their prayers and blessings rained heavily on Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa for his compassion, as well as on the “Captain of the Time is Now administration,” His Excellency Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, whose support has strengthened the Council Chairman’s efforts.
This revitalisation of Gagdi PHC is more than an infrastructural facelift; it is a rebirth of community confidence, a promise of accessible healthcare, and a testament to what people-centred leadership can deliver.
