The seven-man Committee on Political Matters, instituted by the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has paid a working visit to Kanam Local Government Council. The delegation, led by the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, interfaced with the Executive Chairman of Kanam LGC, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, members of the Council Executive, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership, and other political stakeholders in the area.

Unlike many such engagements, the event was not held indoors but at the Council Secretariat premises, where participants also inspected the ongoing interlocking project initiated by the Chairman, which is near completion.Rt. Hon. Mwansat explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess the working relationship between the Executive Chairman and the Legislative Arm of the Council, as well as between the Chairman and the PDP leadership in the state.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa welcomed the delegation and outlined his verified achievements at the grassroots level. He emphasized that his success has been largely due to the support and funding made available by Governor Mutfwang, and he assured that the people of Kanam are firmly committed to supporting the Governor’s second-term bid.Representatives from various groups, including Ward Chairmen of Gidgid and Dengi, youth leaders, women leaders, the PDP Elders Forum, and the Legislative Arm of the Council, all spoke positively about the cordial and healthy relationship that exists between the executive Chairman and the political structures in the area.

A particularly passionate appeal came from Hon. Bagudu, Councillor representing Kanam Ward, who called on the Governor to intervene in the long-abandoned Dengi–Kwalmiya–Angwan Hakimi–Gagdi–Dugub road project. He lamented that the project, awarded since 2016, has been used as a political bait by deceitful actor who mislead the people of Kanam for personal gain. He urged the Governor to take over the project to end years of manipulation and neglect.Hon. Bagudu also commended the appointment of Chief Ephraim Usman by Governor Mutfwang, describing it as “a round peg in a round hole.

He noted that since 1999, no appointee from Kanam had performed as excellently as Chief Usman, and assured that in 2027, the people of Kanam would repay the Governor’s goodwill with their full electoral support.

In his concluding remarks, Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat expressed satisfaction with the developmental strides witnessed in Kanam. He acknowledged that both his delegation and the people had testified to the impressive performance of Chairman Salihu Ayuba Musa. Mwansat praised the Chairman’s projects, especially the improvements within the Secretariat, describing them as exemplary for other local government councils in Plateau State.Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, after witnessing what Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa accomplished at the Kanam Council Secretariat, has been left with no choice but to reflect on some local government councils and wonder whether some councils can measure up to the standard set by Kanam.

He also reaffirmed that Kanam is blessed with dedicated leaders in Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman and Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, whose achievements are tangible and verifiable. At the same time, Mwansat encouraged the Chairman to strive for further improvements, assuring him that Governor Mutfwang remains committed to supporting the Council in delivering even greater progress.
